According
to the 2017 report of the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug
Addiction, in Spain, the prevalence of illegal substance use has
remained relatively stable in recent years: approximately one third of
adults admit to having consumed at some point in their lives some illegal substance. Cannabis,
followed by cocaine, is the most common drug, whose consumption is
mainly concentrated among adolescents and adults under 35 years of age. Although
the latest available data from the 2015 survey in the general
population confirm that the prevalence of consumption of both substances
has been reduced in the last ten years, the levels associated with
cannabis and cocaine in Spain are still higher than in other countries
of Europe. The available data show that "experimentation" with cannabis is more "usual" among the current generation of young spanish people; However, although persistent consumption is still low, people who consume, do it daily. The consumption of illegal substances continues to be more widespread among men than among women.
